Atari Launches Limited-Edition Blockchain Patches

Atari, the classic gaming company, is releasing 500 limited-edition physical patch packs through DYLI, a new blockchain-based marketplace. DYLI runs on Abstract Chain, a new Ethereum layer-2 network, and aims to make collectibles more accessible and secure.

Each patch pack will cost $15 and include one of seven new Atari designs or two vintage patches from the 1980s. Some packs will also have bonus items like stickers, gift cards, or even a special patch signed by Atari’s founder, Nolan Bushnell.

This launch is part of Atari’s push into Web3 technology, a move the company has been exploring since 2018 to modernize its brand. Alex Needelman, founder of DYLI, said the platform’s goal is not just about offering cool products but also about helping more people get involved with blockchain technology.

How Blockchain Works with DYLI

DYLI uses blockchain to ensure all products are authentic. Every item is linked to a redeemable, tradable non-fungible token (NFT). Buyers can sell both physical and digital goods through DYLI’s secondary marketplace.

The platform provides a built-in wallet for transactions, which works with external wallets too. Transactions are gas-free, with DYLI covering all fees using Abstract Chain’s payment tools.

Atari’s Web3 Journey

Atari has been a leader in exploring Web3 and blockchain, embracing the future of technology while celebrating its nostalgic roots. In 2022, it launched Atari X, combining its cryptocurrency and NFT projects under one umbrella.

The company has faced challenges, like issues with its ATRI token and regulatory hurdles, but it has also partnered with big names like Coinbase and The Sandbox. Through these partnerships, Atari brought classic games like Asteroids and Breakout to blockchain gaming platforms.

Tyler Drewitz, a director at Atari, said Web3 represents a new frontier for technology and gaming. “We’re a legacy brand and pop culture icon, so we have a great platform to introduce people to this exciting future,” he explained.

Atari’s new patch collection launches next week, and collectors can sign up now to grab a piece of this innovative project.
