Sonic, the Rebranded Layer-1 Blockchain, is Now the "Golden Standard" of Layer-2s, Says Andre Cronje

The newly rebranded layer-1 blockchain, Sonic (S), is being praised as the "golden standard" of layer-2 (L2) solutions by Andre Cronje, the co-founder of the project.

Cronje shared his thoughts on social media platform X, stating that Sonic, previously known as Fantom, is the "only true decentralized stage 3 L2."

He mentioned that Sonic has achieved several key milestones:

  • No fees are extracted.
  • 100% of submissions go to Ethereum (ETH).
  • There’s no "centralized value extraction."
  • It has decentralized sequencing and bridges.

While other L2s are still pretending to decentralize, Cronje claimed that Sonic has already done it. He also pointed out that Sonic has scaled transactions to over 16,000 per second on the layer-1 blockchain and reduced storage needs by 98%, even for archived nodes.

The team behind the blockchain rebranded from Fantom to Sonic to improve transaction efficiency. Sonic's token (S) can now be traded at a 1:1 rate for the original FTM token and will serve several purposes within the Sonic ecosystem.

As of now, Sonic’s token (S) is priced at $0.453, though it’s dropped nearly 8.5% in the past 24 hours.
