Ethereum Aims to Make Privacy a Core Feature

Ethereum developers are working to make privacy a standard part of the blockchain, not just an optional feature.

On Friday, the Ethereum Foundation’s team formerly known as ‘Privacy & Scaling Explorations’ renamed itself the ‘Privacy Stewards of Ethereum’ (PSE). The team shared a roadmap to make privacy a normal part of Ethereum, covering everything from protocols and infrastructure to apps and wallets. They plan for privacy to be a key feature in areas like finance, identity, and governance while still following global regulations.

Why Privacy Matters
The PSE team says strong privacy is essential to protect Ethereum users. Without it, the blockchain risks becoming a tool for surveillance instead of freedom. If Ethereum cannot guarantee privacy, users and institutions might leave for other platforms.

The Focus: Reads, Writes, and Proving
The team will concentrate on three main areas:

  1. Private Reads – Letting users access Ethereum data without revealing their identities or intentions. This includes creating privacy-protected RPC services so that queries, browsing, or authentication do not leak personal data like IP addresses or account interests.
  2. Private Writes – Making it easier and cheaper to perform private actions on Ethereum, such as sending transfers, voting, or using apps. The team is developing PlasmaFold, a Layer 2 chain that will support private transfers.
  3. Private Proving – Ensuring that any data verified on Ethereum remains private and accessible. This also includes improving data portability and private identity features.

The PSE team says priorities may shift over time, but these three areas will remain their main focus for the coming years.
