Tether Launches PearPass, a Peer-to-Peer Password Manager Without Cloud Storage

Tether, the largest company in the digital asset industry, has launched PearPass, a new peer-to-peer password manager that stores all credentials directly on users’ devices, not in the cloud.

With billions of login credentials leaked over the past decade and growing risks from insecure public Wi-Fi, cloud-based password managers have become major targets for hackers. PearPass solves this problem by removing centralized servers, intermediaries, and third-party storage.

PearPass uses encrypted peer-to-peer technology to sync data directly between a user’s own devices. Credentials are never stored outside the user’s devices, giving users full control over their digital security and reducing risks linked to cloud infrastructure.

This approach aligns with Tether’s vision of building decentralized and resilient technology. As governments and corporations seek more control over data, PearPass offers a system that remains private, independent, and user-controlled. It is designed not only for today’s security threats, but also for future challenges.

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said repeated data breaches show that data stored in the cloud is never fully secure. PearPass removes the single point of failure by operating without servers or intermediaries. Recovery and synchronization happen directly between devices using the user’s own keys, with no third-party control.

PearPass combines ease of use with strong security features, including peer-to-peer device syncing, a built-in password generator, and end-to-end encryption based on open-source cryptographic libraries. All credentials are stored locally and can only be recovered using the user’s own keys.

The app is fully open-source and has been independently audited by Secfault Security, a firm specializing in offensive security and cryptographic analysis. PearPass is also designed to function during outages or in high-risk security environments.

PearPass is part of the Pear ecosystem, which focuses on decentralized solutions for data sovereignty, privacy, efficiency, and security. It is the first fully open-source application built on Pears, reflecting Tether’s commitment to decentralization and transparency.

PearPass will be available as a free download across major platforms.
