Exposed! Polymarket Allegedly Paid Content Creators to Spread False Claims About Prediction Markets
Polymarket Allegedly Paid Content Creators to Promote Misleading Prediction Market Videos
Crypto-based prediction market platform Polymarket allegedly paid content creators to publish videos showing themselves making large profits from bets placed on the platform, according to a new investigation by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
The report said WSJ analyzed around 1,100 videos about Polymarket and reviewed training materials the company provided to creators. The investigation found that many of the videos were recorded using near-identical replicas of the official Polymarket website, while the trades and profits shown were reportedly fabricated.
The videos were then amplified by a network of social media accounts operated by a marketing contractor working with Polymarket.
WSJ also reported that Polymarket instructed creators not to clearly disclose that they had been paid by the company. However, after journalists began questioning the campaign, several creators added “@polymarket partner” to their social media profiles.
Razeen Khan, a college student and content creator who worked with Polymarket until March, compared the practice to fast-food commercials that make meals look more appealing than they are in real life. He argued that the videos merely depicted scenarios that could happen on the platform.
In response to the investigation, Polymarket said it remains committed to maintaining accurate, fair, and transparent prediction markets. The company also announced plans to conduct an audit of its promotional content.
